Spanish Numbers 1-100
Spanish numbers from 1 to 100 are easier once you learn the first twenty, the tens, and the pattern for combining them. The main beginner traps are the twenties, the word cien, and forms like uno, un, and una.
Numbers 1 to 20
| Number | Spanish |

| 1 | uno |
| 2 | dos |
| 3 | tres |

| 8 | ocho |
| 9 | nueve |
| 10 | diez |

| 12 | doce |
| 13 | trece |

| 15 | quince |
| 16 | dieciséis |
| 17 | diecisiete |
| 18 | dieciocho |

Numbers 16-19 are built from diez plus the unit, but written as one word.
The tens
| Number | Spanish |
|---|---|
| 10 | diez |
| 20 | veinte |
| 30 | treinta |
| 40 | cuarenta |
| 50 | cincuenta |
| 60 | sesenta |
| 70 | setenta |
| 80 | ochenta |
| 90 | noventa |
| 100 | cien |
Numbers 21 to 29
The twenties are written as one word:
- 21 - veintiuno
- 22 - veintidós
- 23 - veintitrés
- 24 - veinticuatro
- 25 - veinticinco
- 26 - veintiséis
- 27 - veintisiete
- 28 - veintiocho
- 29 - veintinueve
Numbers 31 to 99
After 30, Spanish uses:
ten + y + unit
- 31 - treinta y uno
- 42 - cuarenta y dos
- 55 - cincuenta y cinco
- 68 - sesenta y ocho
- 99 - noventa y nueve
Uno, un, and una
The number 1 changes before nouns:
- uno - one, when counting
- un libro - one book
- una casa - one house
So you count uno, dos, tres, but you say un café or una mesa.
Common mistakes
- Using uno before every noun. Use un or una with nouns.
- Forgetting y after 30. It is treinta y dos, not treinta dos.
- Mixing up cien and ciento. Use cien for exactly 100. Use ciento uno for 101.
- Treating pronunciation like English. Spanish vowels are short and steady.
